Aims and Scope

The aim of the MA programme is firstly, to guide students towards developing the skills necessary to conduct research in a specific sphere of professional communication related to the media and secondly, to provide supervision and guidance for students to carry out high quality research.

 

Students will be expected to engage in meaningful research in communication in a professional context which involves an aspect of media. The research focus of this programme is potentially very wide. In addition to utilizing the expertise of staff within FASS, the programme would encourage a multi-disciplinary approach to the research undertaken.

Structure

Dissertation up to 60,000 words or, creation/modification of a media product and report of appropriate length.

Professional Communication and Media, particularly popular science, genres, popular culture, visual communication etc.

Demand

This programme would be of interest to recent graduates in related disciplines who would like to research specific topics as a first step towards an academic career, or as a way of making themselves more marketable for employment purposes. Secondly, this programme will be of particular interest to a wide range of government and private sector organizations that need to use the media and/or media tools to make their operations more effective, or need to test the efficacy of their existing media tools.
