PhD in Malay Literature

Start Date : August and January


This programme had been offered since the establishment of UBD. Research is the main menu with the candidate’s choice of topic and scope from the traditional, modern, Islamic and comparative literature. Malay culture research is also welcome.

Degree Requirements

Candidates have to write and submit the proposal of a topic from scopes of subject of Malay Literature or Culture or Language given.

Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree or equivalent from a recognised university or a professional qualification and/or relevant professional experience subject to the approval of the Senate. Appropriate experience and publications may also be taken into account.

Aims and Scope

To give opportunity to the qualified Bruneians and scholars from abroad to further their education in Malay Literature by research. To strengthen Malay Studies in Brunei hence develop stronger international relations with other universities in Asia, Europe and America.

This programme focuses its curriculum to fulfill the present and future needs in the fields related to literary research and teaching, literary theories and criticism, creative writing, Islamic and Comparative literature, Malay Culture, publication and marketing of literary products.
