Brunei-Malaysia Forum 2016The Brunei-Malaysia Forum was held in the Senate Room of Chancellor Hall, UBD, on 16-17 November 2016. In total, there were 34 presentations by staff and students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam and the University of Malaya. |
World GIS Day 2016The Geographical and Environmental Studies department of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam held an event marking the World GIS Day celebration on Tuesday, 15 November 2016. Conference in South KoreaOn 27 May 2016, Dr Siti Norkhalbi, AP Dr Noor Azam, Dr Asiyah az-Zahra and Dr Rommel Curaming from FASS attended the 2016 International Conference of Institute for Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) and Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) in South Korea. |
UNDER-THE-GROUNDProfessional Communication & The Media students under the module AC-4312 Event Design organized UNDER-THE-GROUND UBD ARTS MARKET in collaboration with the Office of Promotions and Events Management (OPEM) which was held on the 22nd until 24th of April 2016. |
Festival Sastera the SixthFestival Sastera the Sixth was organized this year by the Malay Literature students, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, who took the courses AS-2203 (Pengurusan Sastera) and AS-1304 (Sastera dan Media) under the guidance of Awang Mohd. Spectacle 2016The UBD Spectacle Art and Design Graduation Show 2016 was the 4th annual art exhibition held by the final year Art and Creative Technology students. This year there were 40 students participating in the event that was launched on the 13th April and lasted until the 21st May 2016. The aim of the exhibition was to showcase the works of these talented artists and expose contemporary art on a different level to the public. |
DY at Brunei History CentreStudents from FASS and the Academy of Brunei Studies completed a three-month Discovery Year (DY) Internship at the Brunei History Centre under the supervision of AP Dr. Hj Asbol Hj Mail, Dr. Hj Tassim Hj Abu Bakar and officers from the History Centre.

RS and GIS Projects46 Geography and Envionment students successfully completed 16 projects involving RS (Remote Sensing) and GIS (Geographical Information System) software. On 19 and 20 April 2016, they demonstrated the output from their projects involving land-use and management in Brunei and elsewhere. |
FASS Seminar by Dr Frank DhontOn Saturday, 2 April, 2016, Dr Frank Dhont from the Institute of Asian Studies, UBD, gave a presentation as part of the FASS seminar series entitled A Story of Sultans and Subjects: Traditional Power in Early 20th Century Borneo. |
Exhibition by ACT StudentsThe Art and Creative Technology 2nd Semester 2015-16 Undergraduate Art Exhibition: Ceramics and Sculpture opened on 28 March and continued till 30 April, 2016. The exhibition was held in the FASS 1.89 Teaching Gallery. |
Geography and Environment Field TripsThree field trips have been run by the Geography & Development and Environmental Studies Programmes for the year 2015/2016. They were organized by Dr. Shafi Noor Islam and visited three different locations in Brunei. |
Minggu Generasi GeniusFASS’s Minggu Generasi Genius was held for one week, from 21st until 26th March 2016. The main objective of the event was to inspire people to let their “inner genius” shine through as well as to show that learning is not limited to academic work only but is also found in all aspects of life. |
FASS Presentation by Debbie HoOn 9 March 2016, Debbie Ho gave a presentation entitled Singlish as she is Spoke: Then and Now. In the presentation, she discussed the ways that Singlish has changed over the past thirty years. |
History Symposium in Honour of AP B. A. HussainmiyaOn the morning of 27 February 2016, there was a symposium in hounour of Associate Professor B. A. Hussainmiya. There were seven presentations on the history of Brunei and elsewhere by academics from UBD. |
