Three students majoring in English Language and Linguistics, Amirol Hazmi Bin Bohari, Nur Khalilah Binti Khalid and Soo Chow Mei, and one student majoring in English Literature, Hj Muhammad Syukri Bin Hj Bakir, are completing their Discovery Year internship at Kaleidoscope Studio.

From August till November 2017, they have been involved in the successful organisation of five different projects: Public Viewing (Memory); Eco Art Exhibition (Penjaga); Beat Culture; 41st SEA Age Group Swimming Competition; and the Craftworks Kitani craft fair.

The Public Viewing (Memory) exhibition showed paintings by two talented local artists: Inez Christine and Mooi at the Kitchen Table in Kiulap on 10 and 11 August 2017.

The Eco Art Exhibition: Penjaga was held in Kota Kinabalu from 15 to 18 September 2017. This was the fourth time this outdoor installation exhibition has been held, but it was the first time a team from Brunei has participated.

The Brunei contribution involved building shelters from natural materials and learning to weave nipa leaves to create the roof, using traditional anyaman skills.

The Beat Culture event, featuring Swanz, took place on 1 October 2017 with a range of hip hop performances.

The 41st SEA Age Group (SEAAG) Swimming Competition was held from 10 till 12 November 2017 at the National Aquatics Centre in Berakas, Brunei Darussalam.

Teams from nine ASEAN countries participated: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malasyia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Craftworks Kitani craft event was held at Mabohai Shopping Centre on 25 and 26 November 2017.

It showcased the produce of local artisans and craftspeople and featured a wide range of home-made goods including furniture, jewellery, and food itmes, inspired by a fusion of modern and traditional lifestyles.
