The 5th UBD-FASS Term Screening was held in the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre on Friday, 28th April 2023, co-organised by Dr Yong Liu from the Design & Creative Industries (DCI) programme and Ms Mayyer Ling from the English Studies programme. There were a total of 30 student short films across six genres — Documentary, Fiction, Experimental, Animation, 3-Minute Mini Cinema Made by Mobile-phone, and Music Video — recommended from three higher learning institutions in the Sultanate.

The Screening lasted a total of three hours (including a half-hour intermission), followed by a commenting session supported by two invited media professionals — established Bruneian filmmakers Mr. A’aqiil Ahmad, the co-founder of Filterworks Productions and content producer at Progresif Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Azeez Danial from C.T.R.L. Creative Agency.

Not only were the media professionals impressed by the storytelling skills showcased in the wide range of genres, especially those in documentary, animation, fiction, and music video, they also offered their straightforward and constructive feedback to some of the screened works and answered the various questions from the student filmmaker attendees.

This was the second consecutive year that UBD-FASS Term Screening brought some of the higher learning institutions together nationwide.

Among the 30 short films screened in the joint event, 21 titles across all the six genres are made by students from FASS DCI Programme at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), 7 titles in four genres made by students from Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia (MIAA), and 2 titles in fiction genre from Cosmopolitan College.

As a preselection event of the annual PRISM UBD Short Film Festival, some of the screened short films in the 5th UBD-FASS Term Screening will be automatically eligible to submit to the next 6th Edition PRISM UBD Short Film Festival, which will take place in the November and Decmeber 2023.
