Student Short Film Suara Wins Runner-up Accolade in Regional Video Festival
UBD student short film Suara, which is the sole representative of Brunei to compete in the 3rd Southeast Asia Video Festival for Children (SEAVFC) 2019, has won the 2nd place runner-up accolade in the Amateur category of SEAVFC2019 on 30th November in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Suara has made both Brunei and UBD proud, as it is the first Bruneian work to make it to the top two finalists in the SEAVFC’s three-year history. According to film producer Nurain Abdullah, who is the only Bruneian jury member of SEAVFC2019: "Suara was even close to winning the heart award in the Amateur category, and it was praised by one of the festival speakers, Mr. David Kleeman, who is a senior vice president of Global Trends at Dubit, a digital studio based in New York City". The three students responsible for making the short film are Muhammad Iqbal Bin Haji Masmin, Nur Izzatul Hanani Binti Mahammad Hanifah, and Afiqah Khairiyah Binti Haji Adnan. They are all second year students majored in Design and Creative Industries (DCI) Programme under FASS. Suara is their main project produced for the AX-3301 Digital Photography and Videography module (taught by Dr. Yong Liu), which they enrolled in the 1st semester 2019-2020. Suara tells a story about how a hearing-impaired little boy and another boy initialise the first step to play together at a playground. It is a unique visual interpretation of the theme for this year’s SEAVFC2019 – United in Love. |
