UBD-FASS Term Screening: 8th Edition

The 8th UBD-FASS Term Screening was held in the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre theatre at UBD campus on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. A total of 31 refreshing short films across five genres – Animation, Documentary, Fiction, Music Video, and a brand-new AI-generated short film genre – were featured in the programme lineup of this year’s term screening. All of these short screen works were recently produced by students currently enrolling in Universiti Brunie Darussalam (UBD) and Politeknik Brunei (PB).

The event showcased more than 31 recently-made short films in a variety of genres produced by UBD DCI students currently enroll in AX-1202 Introduction to Screen Studies, AX-2309 Digital Photography and Videography, and AX-4306 Advanced Screen Production modules, and six final year DCI students in 2026 Spectrum Archivia batch, as well as students from Politeknik Brunei.
The highlight of the 8th UBD-FASS Term Screening is for the first time ever, a batch of AI-generated short films, along with screen works in the traditional genres, presented by both PB and UBD students, were showcased in an academic event in Brunei Darussalam, reflecting the most updated trend of technological advancement impacting on the visual storytelling.

The Screening lasted total three hours (including a 15-minute intermission), concluded by an expectant commentary session supported by two invited media professionals – established Film Producer Nurain Abdullah from Regalblue Production and Senor Producer Pg Amali Hj Roslin from Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB). Both invited commentators were impressed by students’ camerawork, editing techniques and comedic effects demonstrated in their short films, while offered very specific and constructive suggestions on how to improve their skills on soundtrack and subtitle productions in their future creative effort.

This was the second consecutive year that UBD-FASS Term Screening was operated by a cohort of DCI students who take AX-4306 Advanced Screen Production module in the current semester. As a preselection event of the annual PRISM UBD Short Film Festival, some of the screened short films in the 8th UBD-FASS Term Screening will be automatically eligible for submitting to the 9th PRISM UBD Short Film Festival in December 2026 should they fit any of the competition categories in the 2026 PRISM.
